The French media has gone into overdrive as rumours of an affair between Barack Obama and superstar singer Beyonce were alleged on the country’s Europe 1 radio station.
The controversial accusations came just in time for the arrival of French President Francois Hollande’s arrival on US soil, without the company of his former partner Valerie Trierweiler.
However, a spokesperson for the Washington Post, which was believed to be about to break the story in the US, insisted that the Post had no intention of releasing such a story and that the rumours were ‘completely false’.
But the photographer responsible for revealing the French President’s affair when he published photos of Hollande riding a moped on the way to a secret meeting at his Paris love nest, thinks there could be some truth to the rumours. Paparazzo Pascal Rostain said that if the allegations of an extramarital affair between 53 year old Obama and 32 year old Beyonce are true, the news will send shockwaves across the globe.
It’s well known that the Obamas are firm friends with Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z and the multi-award winning singer famously performed ‘America the Beautiful’ at the president’s inauguration five years ago. In an interview given to Europe 1’s Jean-Marc Morandini, Rostain said ‘At this moment (in the United States) there’s something huge which is about to happen.’
He went on to say that the story would be revealed in the Washinton Post of a ‘supposed liaison’ between Beyonce and Obama, adding that ‘the world will talk.’ The claims were then reported by many of France’s most respected media outlets, including Le Point and Le Figaro.
Rostain was the first to become aware of President Hollande’s affair with actress Julie Gayet after capturing photographic evidence of the pair together and it appears that he is holding himself up as a spokesperson regarding the Obama/Beyonce rumours.
The 20 year age gap between Beyonce and Obama is the same as that between Jule Gayet, 41 and President Hollande, 59, but according to critics that is where the similarities end. Whilst Obama has never been shy to admit that he is a huge fan of the ‘Crazy in Love’ singer, having invited her to perform not only at his inauguration but also at his wife’s 50th birthday party held last month at the White House, a Whitehouse spokesperson called the rumours of an affair ‘ridiculous’ and claimed that they had been fabricated by Rostain in an attempt to raise his profile once again after the French public began to lose interest in the Hollande affair.
It seems that accusing famous political and media figures of having extramarital affairs is currently the most effective way to fill column space but after a story suggesting that Elizabeth Hurley and Bill Clinton had had an extramarital affair were found to be completely false critics feel the French public and citizens throughout Europe may soon lose interest in extramarital affair stories altogether.
A recent French poll found that the majority of citizens felt Hollande’s affair had no bearing on his political office and whilst he has since split from former partner Trierweiler, Hollande has continued his relationship with Gayet.
